This Spectacular canal winds its way through vineyards and sleepy villages for 240km from Toulouse to Sete. The complex system of locks, aqueducts and bridges is a remarkable feat of engineering. A statue of the builder, the salt tax baron of Beziers, Paul Riquet is in the centre of Beziers.
Close by Portiragnes Plage is Beziers. This large town is famous for its bullfights and rugby. The Cathedral St Nazarie with its fine sculptures, frescoes and stained glass windows is certainly worth a visit. The organ and the bishop’s garden are of particular interest. Allees Paul Riquet (Paul Riquet square) has a fine selection of bars shops and open air restaurants.
The citadel is a perfectly restored medieval city. It crowns a steep bank above the river Aude, a fairytale sight of turrets and ramparts. It has 52 towers and two rings of town walls making a total of 3km of battlements. It is still home today to a population of 120 and it has a large number of shops and specialist craftsmen.
Sete is a lively town and major fishing port with quaint shops stocking everything from ships lamps to propellers. Treat yourself to a meal in one of their famous fish restaurants. Take a trip from the harbour in a glass bottomed boat to view the sea life of the Mediterranean.
A small fishing port with winding streets, traditional markets, colourful houses, restaurants and cafes.
This vibrant tourist resort features beautiful beaches, a harbour, waterside restaurants, golf, cruises, watersports, nightclubs, and many theme parks for children.

Opened in December 2004 the bridge towers above the Tarn Valley, its central pillar is higher than the famous French icon the Eiffel Tower. The bridge took just three years to complete, with new engineering techniques being employed.
Experience the beautiful countryside by taking a drive to the villages of Quarante, Cruzy or St Chinian. The wines of St Chinian are amongst the finest in the Languedoc region. Visit the St Chinian co-op if you wish to purchase. (St Chinian 30 to 40 minutes drive)
